Belize

Honduras's Fiestas Agostinas

The country's traditional festivals have inspired travelers for years. This month, Fiestas Agostinas in El Salvador drew in around 1,500 visitors, mainly salvadorenos. But in Honduras, a more traditional festival awaits visitors. The Corn Festival takes place in Danli during the last week of August. Other celebrated festivals include the Dance of the Devils, celebrated from 9 to 12 February in Comayagua, and the Coffee Festival in El Paraiso. The Orange Festival is another popular festival in Honduras.

Fiestas Julias

Fiestas Julias are the patron saint celebrations of El Salvador. These celebrations run from July 17 to July 26, and honor Mrs. Santa Ana, the city's patron saint. El Salvador was originally founded by the Pipiles, but the Spanish took over around 1530 and the city's name was changed to Santa Ana. Throughout the year, the city is filled with street parades and music.

Honduras's San Miguel Carnival

The annual festival of Honduras's San Miguel Carnival is a unique experience with many different events throughout the city. The carnival begins with a Post Office parade with a reading of the municipal side, and celebrations continue with a series of "carnavalitos" that take place in different sectors of town. The main event of the carnival is the election of the Carnival Queen, who is then crowned during a gala that can last up to 6 hours.

Belize's Cocos Island National Park

There are a variety of wildlife and plant life to be discovered in Belize's Cocos Island National Park. The park's 7,000-mm (276 in) annual rainfall is a result of constant latitudinal movement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The climate is humid and tropical, with an average temperature of 26.6 degC (79.5 degF). Oceanic currents from the central Pacific Ocean are also influential. This tropical rainforest climate is characteristic of Cocos Island.

Honduras's La Purisima

Historically, Honduras's La Purisimas were widely popular. Right-wing governments had implemented neoliberal policies which reduced the country's religious freedom and created widespread poverty. In recent years, however, the Sandinista government has worked to maintain La Purisima's popular character, ensuring that the holiday remains a day of joy for the Nicaraguan people.

Honduras's Baile de los Diablitos

Comayagua's Baile de los Diablito, which literally translates to "Dance of the Divine," is one of the oldest and most traditional traditions of Honduras. Celebrated every febrero since 1757, this celebration celebrates the diablitos, or "divine spirits," and is attended by around 80% of Hondurans.
